The
APPLEBY JAZZ FESTIVAL takes place in Bongate next to the river Eden
underneath the towns historic castle. The site is bounded by a red sandstone
rockface on one side and the river on the other. The car park entrance
is off the old A66 road opposite the Royal Oak and next to the ancient
church of St. Michael. Car parking is free. The entrance for the disabled
and for campers is opposite Bongate Mill via the old lane than runs
down to the river from the side of the church. There is no parking on
this road which ends at the river.
Appleby
in Westmorland is an old and beautiful English market town built around
an ancient castle and bounded on all sides by mountains. It was once
the county town of Westmorland and sits on the river Eden, a salmon
river that loops the town. It lies twenty miles east of the lake district
on the famous Settle to Carlisle Railway. The main West Coast line can
be accessed at Penrith 13 mies away.The nearest airports are Teeside,
Newcastle, Liverpool or Manchester.
