CLARE HIRST QUARTET
Clare's excellent quartet start off the festival with material from
her recent CD.
THE BRASS PROJECT
The legendary British sax player John Surman and his pick of the top
brass, including Henry Lowther, Malcolm Griffiths, Steve Waterman
and Pete Beachill, play the unique music of John Warren.
BRUCE ADAMS & ALAN BARNES QNT.
This Award winning duo step out in front of a trio that boasts Dave
Newton on Piano, Clark Tracey on Drums and Steve Watts on Bass.
SATURDAY 24th. June 11.0 - 5.0pm.
TIM WHITEHEAD QUARTET
Tim Whitehead, formerly with Nucleus and Loose Tubes, with his regular
quartet featuring Pete Jacobsen on piano. This quartet has the ability
to combine intimate and reflective qualities with tight dynamic rhythms.
Definitely worth making an early start for.
PETER KING with THE BRYAN SPRING TRIO
Excited anticipation surrounds this coming together, especially for
Appleby, of Britains top alto player and top drummer.
THE STAN TRACEY TRIO/QUINTET
The first appearance at Appleby of Stan's trio with Malcolm Creese
(bass) and Clark Tracey (drums) which should mean plenty of great
piano playing to be later augmented by the considerable talents of
the two tenor giants Art Themen and Don Weller.

JOHN HORLER TRIO
An all-star trio led by brilliant pianist John Horler, with the legendary
drummer John Marshall and the great virtuoso bass player Roy Babbington
.
THE DON WELLER BIG BAND
Don has chosen the cream of British musicians to premier his composition
"The Pennine Suite", which has been comissioned by Appleby
Jazz Society and Jazz Action. The line up includes messrs. King, Themen,
Barnes, O'Higgins, Panayi, Lowther, Presencer, Nightingale, Griffiths
all backed up by Don's regular trio of Dave Newton, Dave Barry and
Andy Cleyndert.
LEE GIBSON
Many people will be surprised to find that there is an outstanding
british female singer they haven,t heard of. This exciting and extremely
musical vocalist, backed by the John Horler trio and Dave O'Higgins
guesting on tenor saxophone, should provide the perfect end for the
day.
SUNDAY 25th. June 11.0 - 4.pm
ANDY PANAYI TRIO
Andy plays alto, tenor, baritone and flute equally well and is a player
of great subtlety who makes every note and phrase count. He is joined
by bass player Steve Watts and the most sought after drummer in the
country, Clark Tracey.
DAVE NEWTON SOLO
Nobody who knows Dave's piano playing will miss this chance to hear
him play solo. For many people this will be a festival highlight.
IAIN DIXON QUARTET
Iain gives the impression of being totally at home blowing a tenor
sax. Thoughtful, inventive playing with a great feel to it.
STAN TRACEY & GERARD PRESENCER
This pairing was first tried at the QEH and brought the house down.
ALAN BARNES SEXTET.
Alan has an in exhaustible enthusiasm for the tradition of jazz and
has the ability to play the whole history of jazz saxophone while
forging his own personality through it. He will be joined by Andy
Panayi, Iain Dixon and Dave Newton (who all feature on his acclaimed
new CD "Thirsty Work") plus Gerard Presencer, Clark Tracey
and Steve Watts.
SUNDAY 25th. June 4.30 - 9.0pm.
THE BRYAN SPRING TRIO
Always one of the highlights of the festival this phenomenal drummer-led
trio has Andy
Cleyndert on bass and Mark Edwards on piano.
THE STAN TRACEY OCTET
The octet are to premier "The Appleby Suite" which has been
commissioned by Hong Kong business man Peter Thompson, who is a native
of the Appleby area and has supplied the
section titles "New Fair", "Settle For Appleby",
"High Cup Nick" and "Lady Ann, which are all taken
from local places and events.
