Exciting young tenor player teams up again with Bryan Spring and should give a lively start to the day.

GARY POTTER SOLO
The exhuberant and highly articulate guitarist in rare solo capacity.

DAVE NEWTON /ALAN BARNES DUO
This recent coming together of Dave's piano and Alan's various saxes has already resulted in a C.D.

STACEY KENT
The young american vocalist who had a week at Ronnie Scotts last autumn with a swinging trio made up of Dave Newton, Roy Babbington and Clark Tracey with the possibility of Art Themen sitting in on some numbers.

SATURDAY EVENING

PETER KING QUINTET
Britain's best alto player brings his new quintet to Appleby which features Gerard Presencer on trumpet, Steve Melling (piano), Dave Green (bass) and, hot from the Irish Symphony Orchestra, Stephen Keogh on Drums.

EVAN PARKER/STAN TRACEY DUO.
Two absolute giants of music join up again to provide what will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of the festival.

DON WELLER QUARTET.
The long overdue and well deserved winner of this years "Best Tenor Sax" award fronts his own quartet with pianist Dave Newton, bassist Andy Cleyndert and drummer Dave Barry.

SUNDAY AFTERNOON

ANDY PANAYI QUARTET.
This band had a sensational week at Ronnie Scotts club early this year playing Gerry Mulligan, Bob Brookmeyer material with freshness and enthusiasm. Alongside Andy on tenor and baritone saxes are Mark Nightingale (trombone), Simon Wolf (bass) and Mark Taylor on drums.

EVAN PARKER SOLO.
Evan uses the limitations of a single reed to produce several separate lines of music that weave together to form patterns that are always delighting and surprising the ear. Although
often labelled a "Free Musician" his music has both structure and intensity, and uses a technique which demands extreme concentration.

JIM MULLEN QUARTET.
The first appearance at Appleby of this great british guitarist and his quartet featuring Dave O'Higgins on Tenor Sax, Lawrence Cottle on bass and Ian Thomas on drums.

SUNDAY EVENING

BRYAN SPRING TRIO
For many people last year this trio provided the emotional highspot of the weekend. The great empathy between Bryan Spring's drumming, the piano playing of Steve Melling and Andy
Cleyndert's bass produces a music that is unpredictable, exciting and extremely sensitive to the nuances of the musical language.

THE STAN TRACEY OCTET
This year they create the finale to the festival and will ensure that everyone goes home in good spirits. Don Weller, Art Themen and Peter King are the saxes, Malcolm Griffiths supplies the wonderfully exuberant trombone playing and Guy Barker the blistering trumpet. The rhythm section is Malcolm Crease (bass), Clark Tracey (drums) and, of course, the great Stan Tracey on the piano.
